Student Archeology
student_archeologyArcheology science is becoming a modern hobby for many people, not only historians and amateur scientists but also student volunteers are crave for uncovering the remains of ancient civilizations. This activity can be done all over the world. Prime locations for archeologists are Italy, Peru, Egypt, Greece and many others especially in Asia and Latin America.

When tourists sign up and join an archeological expedition they help the diggings to continue, otherwise it will be slowed down extremely. Tourists are usually given much better conditions than usual archeologist. You should not work during the whole day while you are a tourist; you will get a good (mostly local) food and a private cabin or bungalow to sleep in. During such trips you can get a chance to go sightseeing the unique and little-investigated places, which are not available for other tourists. You can find lots of ancient stuff while digging from remains of bones and utensils to something that can completely change the way we look at the world.

Alternatives for beginners
If you are a beginner you should start by hearing a lecture, taking some classes and visiting ancient sites such as the Roman Coliseum or the Machu Picchu. It can quickly become your hobby. Beginners usually come join the dig for just a few days to get their hands dirt at a digging and see what it means to be an archeologist and what all the fuss is about. After that they will spend few more days seeing the major sites as tourists and than go home. In such way many beginners become regulars and join new digs.

Things to remember about Archeology:
1.
Weather. Many ancient civilizations arose in tropical areas with sufficient rains and sun. Therefore bright sun, rain and big humidity are usual parts of archeological trips in Latin America and Southeast Asia. It can start to rain anytime and continue for weeks. Be ready to arm yourself with patience and bear it. It is very important to take sun protection (sun block and sun glasses) with you.
2. Food. While the expedition you will travel to different country where you will eat strange food so provide yourself with antibiotics and medicines to cure minor ailments quickly. Remember to drink only bottled water in tropical areas to avoid cholera and other water borne disease, or at least try iodine tablets, water filters and purifying drops.
3. Medicines. You will need vaccination for malaria and yellow fewer in the Americas, Africa and Southeast Asia. There are also malaria tablets (doxycycline and mefloquine) which can help to combat malaria. Besides, check which pills work in which part of the world as some insects are resistant to some medicines. Use bud spray as one of the protections against mosquitoes and wear long clothes with long sleeves.
4. You should not damage artifacts. Ensure that future generations can see the same ruins and historical sites as we can.
