Rafting or whitewater rafting is an exciting entertaining activity which consists in using a raft to navigate a river. It is usually done on rough water or whitewater, in order to make the trip more thrilling.
Rafting trip begins with a meeting the trip leader. He will provide you with a wetsuit. Then you will go by bus to the “put in” where rafts are put in the river. Then your guide will talk with you about safety in water. After that you will take place in your boat. Paddleboats typically seat six to eight people and a guide. The guide will explain you how to paddle when you are afloat and give you time to practice. Then you have just to do it!
You are not obliged to be in a great body shape before experiencing rafting. While the rafting trips most companies offers oar boats and guides do most of the work, so you can take part in rowing as active as you want. Some companies offer paddle boats for the trip. In this case passengers are supposed to be an active source of power to move the boat through the rapids, so besides good fit condition you will have to know also main commands to help maneuver the boat. You should be healthy enough and fit into the life vest. Paddling can be a little bit hard and tiring, but guides show paddling techniques which make the trip enjoyable.
You can take part in rafting trips even without good swimming skills. Everyone has to wear life vest or personal flotation device in commercial rafting trips. This equipment will keep you afloat in case you get in the river. Guides always give in depth safety talk before the trip and will explain what you should do in the event you fall out of the raft. If you are not sure about your swimming skills you can choose at first easier class of your adventure.
